Welcome to Wellington Chess Club. Wellington Chess Club meets in the top floor of Turnbull House, Bowen Street, opposite the Beehive.

Club nights run almost every Tuesday night starting between 7:30-8:00 p.m. The club is closed over Christmas and some other Tuesday nights are not available, for details please refer to the Event Calendar. Players start to arrive just before this to socialise and some have a few practise blitz games to warm up. Feel free to join in.

Two rooms are available. One for serious tournaments and the other for casual games. Club tournament games are rated by the New Zealand Chess Federation. These are usually long games of up to four hours, although at least one rapid tournament is held each year. Club tournaments are played both in 'open' Swiss draw styles and in graded events where players of similar playing strength play one another.
